The main objective of this project will essentially be to provide a synthesis of current knowledge on the assisted migration of urban trees.

Trees in cities are already under quite significant stress and we anticipate that under climate change, conditions will be more difficult, including higher temperatures and more frequent droughts. Assisted migration is a proposed strategy in natural forests to help forests cope with these changes. Assisted migration is the movement of species to new locations that should better match their adaptation to a future climate. We want to start an assisted migration approach in the city as well. We are working with the City of Quebec to identify the species that would be more adapted to future climate conditions in a context of higher temperatures and more frequent and intense drought. We are also developing a social component in this project.
