This tree inventory project on private lands, in collaboration with the City of Quebec, the Association Forestière des Deux Rives, the Collectif Canopée, and CERFO, is based on participatory science. Residents are invited to document their trees, contributing to a broader data collection effort. In parallel, data on trees is gathered from businesses and institutions. Additionally, interviews with private landowners highlight their key role in the health of urban forests. This project pushes the boundaries of participatory science in urban forestry while integrating inclusive practices into forest management.

Over the past decade, remote sensing has truly revolutionized the fields of environmental science and forestry, but so far its potential has mostly been exploited at the stand level. Using high-resolution data acquired by drones, this research project aims to segment forest cover at the individual tree level using LiDAR and classify each tree species based on hyperspectral data.
