Theme 1 : Impact of construction activities on urban trees
The first research theme considers trees in the planning and design of any project. Here, we evaluate the impact of different approaches to protecting mature trees during the installation of major infrastructures to promote an integrated approach to protection when installing gray infrastructures (e.g., roads, bicycle lanes, buildings). We also evaluate the impact of construction and related anthropogenic activities on climate change.
Theme 2 : Long-term impacts of development on urban soils
The second research theme is concerned with understanding the long-term impacts on urban soils related to human anthropogenic activities. Here, we evaluate and design innovative practices in new plantations, prioritizing adequate space for tree growth. Furthermore, we want to characterize the factors affecting the survival of new plantations to improve them, by focusing on soil substrates and healthy development of roots. Finally, we explore using urban soils as a climate change mitigation tool.
The third research theme covers the role of trees in an urban environment in the context of climate change. Thus, we aim to identify approaches to increase the diversity of species available to ensure the resilience of the forest to different biotic and abiotic stresses.
